The Lesser Arts @ GIAB 2012

Sarah Duke, Chris Kohler, Kathryn MacDonald and myself, collectively known as The Lesser Arts, will be showing at this year's Glasgow International Artists Bookfair. The bookfair takes place over the weekend of the 28th and 29th of April @ The Royal Concert Hall in the city centre.

Hope to see you there.

It's All Around You 2011

It's All Around You @ The Griffin is in its second year now, and once again I exhibited in the show as well as designing the poster and flyer for the event. This year's poster features an image by Sarah Duke.

Art in the Park 2011

This year my colleague Mark McGhee and I were offered the opportunity to curate the Southside Festival art exhibition here in Glasgow. This years event was held at The Glasshouse in Queens Park.

Along with selecting work for display and chipping in with the install I managed to fit in designing the poster and exhibition catalogue.

Poetry Beyond Text: Vision, Text and Cognition

I was delighted to be involved in Poetry Beyond Text: Vision, Text and Cognition, a two-year AHRC funded research project which explored aesthetic and cognitive responses to visual-poetic artworks, as the project's designer. The project saw me undertake a range of design tasks including the design of the website, exhibition signage and information panels, posters, invitations and the exhibition catalogue.

It's All Around You 2010

I was invited to contribute to It's All Around You, an exhibition of new work by artists based in Glasgow, showing @ The Griffin. Alongside exhibiting, I created this poster design featuring an illustration by Nick Alston.

Plans are already in place to make this an annual event so look out for more on this in the future.

in medias res

in medias res is a very small edition artist's book I produced as part of my art college work. The book is hand bound and screenprinted throughout, with lasercut panels which must be removed to reveal the underlying text. The story is a playful, lyrical account of a series of surreal situations and images inspired by my research into reflexive fiction.

Spectre of Spaces/Spectra of Spaces

A set of two complementary books with selected quotes and accompanying illustrations. The books explore how fictive spaces in literature function as renditions of subjective and objective experiences of reality.

Lying in the Garden

The initial inspiration for this work came from a description of how William Faulkner had envisaged the publication of The Sound and the Fury, with different coloured inks indicating the monologues of the various narrating voices in the book. From this, I devised a strategy of assimilating the written works (or voices) of other writers to fashion a new one. I supplemented the resulting text with illustrations of ambiguous objects and scenarios to emphasise the disconcerting nature of the text.

This book documents an installation constructed at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. The texts which are featured in the exhibit come from various sources including Marcel Proust, Roland Barthes, J. L. Borges and Walter Benjamin. The title of the work was inspired by Benjamin's idea of 'dialectical images'.
